Follow history......
on a footpath through the Maine woods to Katahdin Lake Wilderness Camps, three miles from the base of Katahdin in Baxter State Park on remote Katahdin Lake.
Established in 1885 the camps, which include private cabins and a main lodge with dining room situated in a beautiful clearing in the woods, are only accessible by float plane, by hiking 3.3 miles or by snowshoeing or cross country skiing in winter.
Boasting a remarkable history, over the years visitors to the lake have included Frederick Edwin Church, Theodore Roosevelt, Marsden Hartley, James FitzGerald, Supreme Court Justice Edwin Douglas, and Carl Sprinchhorn to name a few. Governor Percival Baxter envisioned Katahdin Lake as " the crown jewel" of Baxter State Park, and through an ambitious capital campaign, the parcel was donated to the park and the people of Maine in 2006.
We are pleased to offer workshops under the name of the Katahdin School of Arts at this unique location beginning this summer 2012. These courses will allow you to learn and collaborate with others in an atmosphere of ease and relaxation with excellent instructors, comfortable accommodations and great food!
